Annual Outboard Service Guide

At Clyde Outboard Services we undertake the following as part of your service.

Standard 2 Stroke Service:

  1. Lubricate all lubrication points. Lubricate more frequently when used in salt water.
  2. Inspect thermostat visually for corrosion, broken spring. Test operation using water at correct temperature and that it is fully closed at room temperature.
  3. Inspect, clean or replace spark plugs.
  4. Check / remove fuel line, filter, water separator for contaminants, replace or clean along with carburettor.
  5. Check corrosion control anodes. Check more frequently when used in salt water.
  6. Check recoil starter rope for erosion due to excessive use.
  7. Check water pump impeller replace if worn, torn, if overheating occurs or reduced water pressure is noted.
  8. Check shear pin, propeller and Lubricate splines on shaft.
  9. Drain and replace gear box oil.
  10. Check tightness of bolts, nuts and other fasteners.
  11. Inspect electric start system.
  12. Check trim and tilt motor is working correctly, there is no pressure loss or leakage.
  13. Test run outboard motor
  14. Adjust throttle and gear shift controls, synchronise carburettors  if necessary. Addition work undertaken when the outboard is attached to the boat.
  15. Check dashboard gauges for readings.
  16. Check Battery and cable connections
  17. Check Steering pivot for full movement.

 

 Standard 4 Stroke Service:

  1. Lubricate all lubrication points. Lubricate more frequently when used in salt water.
  2. Change engine oil and replace filter. Oil should be changed more often when the engine is operated under adverse conditions such as extended trolling.
  3. Inspect thermostat visually for corrosion, broken spring. Test operation using water at correct temperature and that it is fully closed at room temperature.
  4. Inspect, clean or replace spark plugs.
  5. Check / remove fuel line, filter, water separator for contaminants, replace or clean along with carburettor.
  6. Check corrosion control anodes. Check more frequently when used in salt water.
  7. Check recoil starter rope for erosion due to excessive use.

  12. Inspect timing belt.
  13. Check tightness of bolts, nuts and other fasteners.
  14. Inspect electric start system.

  16. Test run outboard motor.
  17. Adjust throttle and gear shift controls, synchronise carburettors if  necessary.  Addition work undertaken when the outboard is attached to the boat.
  18. Check dashboard gauges for readings.
  19. Check Battery and cable connections
  20. Check Steering pivot for full movement.
  21. Computer diagnostic plug in for engine faults, run time hours with printout provided.

Mobile or Workshop Servicing

We have space in our premise for customers to bring your engines to our workshop on your boat. This is subject to boat size, please call to make arrangements. Alternatively we can arrage the service at your boats location within 40 miles of Port Glasgow.
